Born in Finland, Tove Skutnabb-Kangas now lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. She speaks Finnish and Swedish as mother tongues. She is Vice-President of Terralingua- Partnerships for Linguistics and Biological Diversity and a member of the International Academy of Language Law.
She has ben awarded one of the two 2003 Linguapax prizes (Catalan sociolinguist Aina Moll is the other recipient) for her outstanding work in the field of linguistic diversity and multilingual education.
She is and has been member of many editorial boards, and has contributed to a dozen of encyclopaedias and handbooks. Her own books include: Bilingualism or Not - The Education of Minorities; Linguistic Imperialism; Linguistic Human Rights: Overcoming Linguistic Discrimination; Multilingualism for All; Linguistic Genocide in Education - or Worldwide Diversity?.
At present she works at the Department of Languages and Culture at the University of Roskilde, Denmark.
