Why is Ramgoolam tying Republic of Mauritius to a USA guilty of Piracy in the high Seas and Wars of Aggression on Palestine, Venezuela and Iran?
Ramgoolam is making a strategic error.
He is aligning the Republic of Mauritius with a State, the USA, that is guilty of piracy on the high seas and of waging wars of aggression.
Already having fallen for the UK-USA trap of a 99-year lease in exchange for blood money, while the USA Militarily Occupies Diego-Chagos, part of the Republic of Mauritius, and now being left high-and-dry when the British are busy suspending their agreement with Mauritius, why is Ramgoolam now going further and tying our country to this out-of-control, desperate US empire, even as it begins its historic collapse?
Why on earth do joint “maritime security exercises” with a pirate State? Why is Ramgoolam towing the line as the US Military leads a Maritime Security Exercise, the “Cutlass Express Exercise”, allowing the USA to penetrate the Mauritius Police Force and the Mauritius Revenue Authority? Such an exercise is happening right now, between 3 and 13 February 2026.
The Mauritius Police Force wrote in its 4th February fb post: “Cutlass Express is a US-led, multinational maritime exercise conducted across the East African Coastal Regions and the Western Indian Ocean, aimed at assessing and enhancing maritime law enforcement capabilities, interoperability, and regional cooperation among the United States, African Partner Nations, and international partners.”
Even the UK stopped intelligence sharing with the USA over USA piracy against Venezuelan speedboats. Trump accuses the boats of being part of an alleged drug-trafficking network. But even the USA’s closest ally, the UK, knows that the assassinations and destruction of the boats, are piracy on the high seas. That is not counting the seizure or theft of oil tankers and Venezuelan oil, and kidnapping the President and his wife, on spurious ever-changing pretexts.
In Cabinet Meeting of 30 January 2026, we read an item on Chagos updates: “Cabinet has taken note of the status of discussions on the implementation of the Agreement between Republic of Mauritius and UK governments concerning the Chagos Archipelago. And debates on the Diego Garcia Military Base and British Indian Ocean Territory Bill in the UK House of Lords on 26 January 2026 have been postponed.” This is taking note of being left high-and-dry, we presume.
And the undertakings by Ramgoolam go further. The Cabinet Minutes read: “Cabinet has further taken note that a high-level delegation from the United States of America (USA) is proposing to visit Mauritius on 24 and 25 February 2026 for talks on a proposed USA-Mauritius Security Partnership Agreement and enhanced cooperation in the Western Indian Ocean.”
How can our country sign up to any “security partnership” a State like the USA when it is acting against international law, whether in Palestine, in and near Venezuela and in and near Iran? Since military escalation against Venezuela accelerated in September 2025, US Coast Guards, Marines and Navy Seals have not only boarded and seized oil tankers, but Trump has indicated he intends to “keep” the oil and the tankers. This is high-seas theft of resources, as pirates were doing back in the 16th century.
What makes this even worse for Mauritius is that the USA military has already acted on Trump decrees that designate anyone the USA wants to designate a “terrorist”, and kill them on sight. More than 100 fishermen have been killed in cold blood by USA coast guards off the coast of Venezuela in the Atlantic, or even in the Pacific Ocean non-Venezuela coast, on nothing more than suspicion of violating a USA “decree”. There is no due legal process. USA is acting as a “policeman, judge and executioner” on the high seas, and now Mauritius allies with it for “maritime security?
In one such USA heavy military attack against a small fishing vessel in September last, the USA decided in cold blood to murder two survivors, hanging on to flotsam in the sea.
Questions to the Ramgoolam-Berenger-Duval-Subron Government
Is their government committing itself to complicity with a USA military that commits acts of piracy in international waters? And even in exclusive waters of a State? Is their Government intending to be complicit in such violations of international law?
Is their government selling sovereignty over Diego Garcia, Chagos and the whole of Republic of Mauritius to this dangerous, falling US empire?
Is their government complicit with USA in violating the Pelindaba Treaty for a Nuclear Arms Free Africa, through the USA military base on Diego Garcia where nuclear arms are stockpiled and can be used against other states against which the State of Mauritius has not declared war with?
This is all happening, we warn the Ramgoolam Government, in a context where USA has not responded to Russia’s request to renew the “New START” Treaty, which expires today 5th February?
Is their government intending to allow the USA military to use Diego Garcia to attack Iran?
It is to be noted that, unlike several Middle East countries that have refused USA permission to use their airspace and US military bases on their soil, in the event of an attack against Iran, Prime Minister Ramgoolam has remained silent?
Is their government through talks on “USA-Mauritius Security Partnership Agreement and enhanced cooperation in the Western Indian Ocean” intending to convert our Republic into a vassal state, tied to this out-of-control US empire, presently under Trump? Even as this USA is the launch-pad for a dying Western empire’s last stages of its uncontrollable destruction?
When the MBC TV JT of 3-Feb gave voice to high-ranking US military officials in full military gear the like of Lt General John Breman, Deputy Commandant – USA Africa Command and Rear Admiral Kelly C. Ward Director- Strategic Effects for Commander US Naval Forces Europe/Africa, is this government getting people of the Republic to treat as “normal” to be addressed by high ranking officials of an occupying army of part of our land? This is truly obsequiousness taken to the extreme.
All this is happening even as the USA continues to arm, ally with, and finance, the genocide that Israel is committing in Palestine, under the disguise of supposed “Board of Peace”, on which Israel’s Prime Minister sits, and over which Trump has named himself and his business cronies, “governors”.
And all this is happening, too, as this same military, through its ICE units of masked men, occupies the USA’s own cities, arresting men, women and even a child in kindergarten on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant.
