International Workers solidarity condemning the genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza

Resolution on Palestine voted unanimously without amendments at All the African Middle East Trade unions meeting. Reeaz Chuttoo(CTSPP, member of SOMALP) was chairperson of the Resolution Committee held on 5th September 2025, in Kenya.

009/25 Resolution on Palestine
WHEREAS, the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Palestine, marked by the brutal aggression and deliberate act of genocide against the Palestinian people carried out by the oppressive Zionist entity, led by the far-right government of Israel, directly responsible for these crimes, against innocent children and elderly civilians in Gaza, including systematic and forced displacement and the bombing of unarmed civilians as they wait in line for food, have resulted in catastrophic loss of life, widespread destruction of infrastructure, hospitals, and buildings, profoundly impacting the lives and livelihoods of Palestinian workers and their families. This is not only a humanitarian crisis but a catastrophe for humanity, a breakdown of the most basic principles of international law and human conscience.
RECOGNIZING THAT the construction, building, building materials, and allied sectors in Palestine are vital for economic development and the provision of essential infrastructure, housing, and public services, but that it is severely impacted by the ongoing conflict, restrictions on the import of building materials, and the destruction of infrastructure, hindering sustainable development and exacerbating the vulnerability of Palestinian construction workers.
RECOGNISING ALSO that these crimes take place in the context of Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine, which systematically denies Palestinians their right to self- determination, entrenches land dispossession and an economy built on profiteering from war and displacement, provides oxygen to the perpetrators of genocide, and fuels cycles of violence and oppression that make any genuine prospect of peace untenable:
RECOGNISING THAT any sustainable reconstruction is needed and that effort toward this must prioritize the dignity and rights of Palestinian workers, ensuring their full participation in decision-making processes, guaranteeing fair wages, providing access to social protection, and securing an environment free from discrimination and labour exploitation.
RECOGNIZING FURTHER that workers frequently face the injustice of unjustified termination of employment, often without proper due process or adherence to labour laws, which results in severe economic hardship and a violation of their fundamental rights.
STRESSING THE URGENT NEED to ensure the complete and timely payment of severance allowances, all unpaid wages, and any other relevant compensation for all instances of unjustified termination of employment, thereby upholding principles of social justice and economic security for affected workers.
DEMANDING THAT all relevant actors including governments and employers must uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law and international labour standards, provide immediate and sustained humanitarian assistance, and commit to a worker-centric approach to reconstruction that rebuilds the infrastructure, workers’ livelihoods, social justice, and peace.
THEREFORE, CALLING FOR BWI AND ITS AFFILIATES TO:
1. Advocate for an immediate and permanent stoppage of all hostilities and brutal aggression on the people of Palestine.
2. Advocate for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid including medical supplies, food, clean water, shelter, to all affected areas in the Gaza Strip. This must be the urgent prevention of famine and widespread disease, together with the protection of all civilian lives, critical infrastructure, and those agencies responsible for delivering aid to those affected. Lobby for substantial and unconditional international support for a comprehensive, worker-centric reconstruction plan (and its implementation) for Palestine (one that secures decent work opportunities, fair wages, safe working conditions, social protection, freedom of association, etc.).
3. Advocate for immediate application, implementation, and strict enforcement of international humanitarian law, international law, international labour standards, in all relevant contexts. BWI and its affiliates must urge regional bodies, such as theAfrican union (AU), to utilize their full mandate and enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance by all member states and relevant actors.
4. Stand in solidarity with Palestinian trade unions and workers’ in their fight for peace in their country.
5. Support Palestinian trade unions in their efforts to organize construction workers, promote decent working conditions, and ensure respect for workers' rights.
6. Support Palestinian trade unions and workers in rebuilding the country through continued advocacy.
7. Push for the complete payment of severance allowances, unpaid wages, and other relevant compensation for all unjustified termination of employment.
8. Explicitly condemn the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, denounce the crimes of the far-right government of Israel, and call for an immediate end to the illegal occupation of Palestine and the recognition of the State of Palestine for a long- lasting and sustainable peace prospect.
9. Commit to campaign against sustaining the economy of genocide by opposing all forms of economic, financial, or trade support that enable Israel government’s system of oppression and occupation, in line with the findings of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, “From economy of occupation to economy of genocide” (A/HRC/59/23), submitted to the UN Human Rights Council.
10. Emphasize the necessity of the full application of the Fourth Geneva Convention and call for the deployment of international forces to protect the Palestinian people.
11. Call for the full recognition of the State of Palestine in all international fora, especially within the International Labour Organization as a full member.
12. Boycott all forms of work in settlements established on the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, as they are illegal and constitute a blatant violation of international law.
