Statement Against Gaza Genocide and in Favour of Closure of the Diego Garcia Base

This Statement supported by 20 organisations in Mauritius was submitted to the Prime Minister Yesterday afternoon.
FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE PRIME MINISTER
We, the undersigned, 20 organizations working together in a common front “Against the Gaza Genocide and in Favour of the Closure of the Diego Garcia Base”, call on the Government of the Republic of Mauritius to:
1. Take a firm stand for Israel and USA to immediately stop the genocide against the people of Palestine, in particular Gaza, by:
* Isolating Israel on all fronts – diplomatic, sports, cultural, academic, economic whether by boycott, divestment or sanctions, as well as geo-politically, for example, in the African union and all other multi-lateral international organizations of the UN,
* Joining the movement to impose an arms embargo on Israel,
* Joining in the movement to suspend Israel from the United Nations,
* Joining, as a party, in the ICJ case that South Africa has put against Israel for genocide.
Now that the dangers of the UK-USA military base on Diego Garcia are exposed during the Israel-USA war on Iran, when the base on the land for which we are democratically responsible could be used to aggress countries with which Mauritius is not at war, and now that the ICJ has found Mauritius to be sovereign, it is more important than ever for the Mauritian Government to call for the immediate closure of this base. We refuse blood money! Everyone saw how Qatar was put in the morally dubious position of hosting a military base of the very United States of America that is funding and has backed the genocide in Gaza. The spectre of retaliation against the Republic of Mauritius has risen before our eyes.

4 April, 2025 The march in streets of Port Louis, held by the common front
3 June 2025, Letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding diplomatic relations with Israel, signed by now 21 organizations.
13 June 2025, Press Conference announcing present and future actions of common front and common front members, including: Centre Goomany will be holding a teach-in, UPSEE will be holding a Forum on the effects of the Gaza genocide on Palestinian teachers and other staff as well as students, another Forum to be organized by the CTSPP on the effects of Israeli occupation on the Palestinian working class, three members of LALIT participating in the Global March to Gaza in Egypt, the delivery of a 200-page document listing the name and age of each child killed during the genocide in Gaza to the USA Embassy, French Embassy, European union Delegation and the British High Commission delivered by members of the organizatione “Never Again – Olive Resistance”, as well as a Poet Tea with readings of poems by Palestinian poets in Port Louis.
