It is up to the Actions of the People now to Make their Governments Stop the Genocide – Blog No. 70

10.06.2025

We have warned that the Israeli State would make things worse for Palestine, and worse still for Gaza, and it is so. And still the USA persists with its arms and vetoes, hand-in-glove with those doing the massacres. The leaders of the big European countries try to avoid the label of genocide perpetrator, without stopping participating.

And so the tiny sailboat Madleen of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition confronted the full force of the Israeli Occupation Forces at sea.  On board were the outlines of what Gaza needs: food, medicines, baby formula -- urgently. And also people, not Governments: including activists like Greta Thunberg, a member of the European Parliament like Rima Hassan and an Al Jazeera journalist Omar Faiad. They were arrested by the Israeli State. Imagine a State that arrests the young people that bring baby food to the starving! The Madleen has shown up for the world to see what the world’s Governments are condoning by their inaction.

And at the same time, by land, people from all over the world gather in Cairo to march to Gaza. The march will begin in the early hours of Friday 13th June, and it will take two days. They will then protest peacefully at the Rafah Crossing to call for the end of the siege and the end of the genocide. Each person and group present will call on their own Government to act against the Israeli occupation of Palestine, against the genocide, against the constant expulsions and cruel so-called ethnic so-called cleansing. Who can stand to watch babies intentionally starved? Who can stand to watch babies intentionally bombed? Along with the adults, the old, old ladies, the ill and the already amputated of limbs. the infirm, and the already-wounded in their hospital beds? Along with the medics and journalists? The postmen and the carpenters? The fisherfolk and the poets? The barbers and bakers? The collectors of rubbish and the kindergarten teachers? And all those gentle menfolk of Palestine?

So, we stand by the people on that march. And we call, like the 21 organizations who have just written to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ritesh Ramful, for the Government to announce immediately that it intends to isolate Israel completely – politically, economically, culturally, in sports – until Israel stops the genocide and occupation, and that Mauritius will become a party, alongside South Africa, in the ongoing ICJ case against Israel for genocide.
