04.12.2024

The “Ad Hoc Committee Supporting Palestine” today called on the new Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam to make a Prime Minister’s Statement about the Government’s intentions regarding how to isolate the state of Israel in order to halt the genocide against the people of Palestine. LALIT publishes I t below.

This ad hoc committee was set up following question time at Ragini Kistnasamy of LALIT’s report back from Palestine. It was in the general context of how to stop the genocide, but also the immediate opposition to the presence of Israeli groups at the Mystic Music Rave due this Saturday at Maritim Hotel.

Here is the content of the letter:

December 3, 2024

Dr the Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoolam G.C.S.K, FRCP

Prime Minister

Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications,

Minister of Finance, Minister for Rodrigues and Outer Islands

Treasury Building

Port Louis

 Honorable Prime Minister,

Dear Sir,

We wish to convey our heartfelt congratulations following the overwhelming victory of your alliance during the last general elections.

We are writing to you with regards to the coming up of the Mystik Gardens music festival to be held on December 7th, 2024, in the Ruins of Balaclava, a National Heritage Site. This event has lined up two Israeli Groups namely Vini Vici and Omiki.

You are aware of the ongoing genocide being perpetrated in Palestine where entire and defenseless Palestinian families have been literally slaughtered by the Israeli Defence Forces, IDF, in Gaza, the latter being armed by the USA. For your information and consideration, the two aforesaid groups have publicly voiced out their support to the Israeli state authorities despite the ongoing genocide.

In this context, we call on you to make a Prime Minister’s statement in Parliament in favor of the boycott of Israel economically and politically but also on matters with regards sports, culture and academia.

Honorable Prime Minister, we do hope that you will give our request due consideration

Yous sincerely

Jean Marie F. Richard (Tel 52528375) and Lindsey Collen (Tel 57816256)
