Genocide Blog 51 - Netanyahu draws world into violent death throes of Israel colonial project

Where our cul-de-sac Ragoo Lane gives on to Allee Tamarin, there is now a white line painted on brand new carpet-like tarred road. Allee Tamarin, a mass of pot-holes since before the lockdowns, is the smoothest surface in the country. So, people walk along this sleek street carrying square boxes each bearing a round cake with blue icing on top. Because this is a year when this is the day when the Virgin Mary feast is a public holiday. And kids and adults enjoy riding their bikes from Labutik Deni to Labutik Longann, for no reason at all – except the road surface.
Meanwhile.
The live broadcasts of the genocide Israel and its USA handlers perpetrate keep us focused on the ongoing horror. It is not hidden. The Palestinian people’s 76 years of being hounded out, massacred, and then again hounded out, goes on and on, but now for 10 months in full view. The Palestinian armed resistance manages to outwit the over-developed Israeli military State. Young men go stick a bomb, made from unexploded Israeli bomb parts, by hand on an Israeli tank, move back quickly. It explodes. Now, the Palestinians get support from the UN’s top Courts, the ICJ and the ICC, from almost all nation States outside Western imperialism’s close coterie, and in the past six months from an increasingly big majority of the working people within each imperialist country. The Palestinians’ Hezbollah allies, not even a state, have the decency to keep pressure on Israel, firing at military targets with artisanal weapons that are increasingly sophisticated. Being made of papier maché, radar can’t always see them. The Houthis, too, use what strength they have to stand by the people of Palestine. And now Iran threatens Israel.
And the USA vows to “defend Israel” – even as it admits that Netanyahu is a danger to the interests of the American State, which does not want a war in the Middle East.
Israel’s recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was the latest in the hideous war crimes of Israel. These crimes now, going on and on around the crime of genocide of the Palestinian people, now bring the USA on to a war footing. It is as though the Netanyahu State is a leading part of the USA state apparatus, the part that is made up of hawks pushing for war against Iran, and run by the big arms and oil lobbies, clustered around AIPAC. We saw Netanyahu pulling the puppet strings that made Republican and Democratic congressmen, stand up, clap and collapse down, and then stand up, clap and collapse down again, over 50 times. But who is the handler of the puppet handler? It is increasingly clear that the handler of the puppet handler, Netanyahu, is part of the USA state.
Look what happened.
Israel killed the very man, Ismael Haniyeh, with whom it was ostensibly negotiating for a ceasefire. Israel had ostensibly made a proposal. Hamas had accepted. Then Israel announced it did not agree with its own proposal, and Israel goes kills the negotiator? What kind of a State goes and kills the negotiator? Israel killed a man who was an elected former Prime Minister of Palestine. And where did they kill him? On sovereign Iranian territory. They murdered him, when he was in Teheran, as a diplomat, when he was there, in the open, not in hiding. He was present for the formal ceremony for the inauguration of the new Iranian President. What kind of bandit state acts like this? And then when Iran says it will retaliate, which I hope Iran has the strategic patience not to do, the USA says it will “defend Israel.” It moves its submarines to the Mediterranean, and brings two aircraft carriers to the scene of Israel’s crimes.
So, the USA goes on arming the Israeli State, so that it continues:
- to kill Palestinians children, pensioners, mothers with babes in arms, youngsters, women and men, ambulance drivers, nurses and doctors, teachers and shoe-makers, vegetable planters and shop-keepers – but especially children. Those it does not kill, it leaves maimed, orphaned, traumatized.
- to destroy all the hospitals, schools, public records, roads, sewerage plants, electricity supplies, water treatment plants, and to slice corridors into Gaza, as they have already done in the West Bank.
- to assassinate people all over the world, as it pleases.
- to flaunt international law, ignore ICJ rulings, ignore Security Council Resolutions, and even cynically to weaponize Humanitarian Law, as UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has proven. It uses Humanitarian Law as a pretext for corralling Palestinians in Gaza from one area to another, as if they were herds of animals, pretending to be “putting them out of harm’s way”.
We must go on doing our bit to stop this genocide, and to get a proper egalitarian, democratic process underway in all of historic Palestine, with everyone assured safety. It was done in South Africa. It can be done in Palestine-Israel. And this way from the River to the Sea, everyone will be free.
Our Government must right now join the South African case, while at the same time, working at the African union, for a common stand. It is not impossible to stop this genocide. And if we do not stop it, the dangers of a hideous war stand exposed before our eyes. Remember Israel has nuclear weapons. They may be “secret” in the sense that the USA can only continue to supply arms to Israel by pretending Israel does not have nuclear weapons. But that makes the weapons no less real.
So, as life goes on wherever we are, in Ragoo Lane, even with a smooth Allee Tamarin, we cannot help but think of the ruined roads in Gaza and the West Bank. Blown up and then bulldozed to ruins. On purpose, as part of a genocide. And then, in turn, bringing the world near to nuclear war. And remember Mauritius is part of this. We still have not got the UK-USA’s illegal occupation of Diego Garcia to end in practice. So, there is work before us.
