Kenyan and ... Mauritian Forces to be Sent to Haiti in USA-controlled Mission: A Warning to Pravind Jugnauth

LALIT has learnt from a number of sources, including from The Guardian of 21 May, that Mauritius supposedly has military men on stand-by, ready to send to Haiti on a USA-organized totally illegal mission to go into Haiti. Has anyone heard of the Special Mobile Force sending soldiers there? The whole idea of this mission is “du jamais vu”. The USA refused to contribute to a UN mission, and then set up this dangerously colonial mission.
We hope we do not find this mission by the SMF hidden somewhere in tomorrow’s budget speech. Watch out for anything that might mask this!
While the Kenyan government led by William Ruto has offered 1,000 military men, Mauritius is merely in a list of countries (Chile, Jamaica, Grenada, Paraguay, Burundi, Chad, Nigeria) that are prepared to lend their names and some unspecified number of soldiers to the mission, as if to give a fig-leaf of geo-political cover to poor Mr. Ruto. Yet, these seven countries are supposed to be contributing as many as 1,500 more soldiers to add to Kenya’s 1,000. All of which will be “run” by the USA Mafia. We call it a “Mafia” operation because it is clearly illegal.
Let us start with Kenya. The Supreme Court in Kenya has flatly declared such a ploy “illegal”. Judge Enock Chacha Mwita ruled that “any decision by any state organ or state officer to deploy police officers to Haiti… contravenes the constitution and the law and is therefore unconstitutional, illegal and invalid.” (reported many places including on Al Jazeera 26 January this year.) So, the Supreme Court has declared it illegal.
After that judgment, Ruto and the then Haitian Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, signed a bilateral agreement in March to try to get around it. But there was no Parliament or Government at the time in Haiti so what exactly was Mr. Henry? And Mr. Henry has resigned since then. So, who is inviting the troops in? Meanwhile, there is still a new Supreme Court challenge in Kenya, but Mr. Ruto just goes ahead in Biden’s plan, kumsi-ryin-ete.
So, the whole plan orchestrated by US President Joe Biden is “bidon”.
But it is supposed to be going ahead.
We write this article on the eve of the Budget to warn the Prime Minister of the danger of putting any Mauritian soldiers into this clearly illegal mission. Please could everyone be on the look-out for anything in the budget that will later be used as proof that this hair-brained scheme was “democratically” voted.
We would like to re-publish, in this context, below an open Letter signed by the great Kenyan writer Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o. (Many Mauritians have read his novels, which were prescribed texts in College for years.) The sentiments he express to his country’s leader are ones we share relative to ours, should this news be true regarding Mauritius having promised soldiers. (In addition, Ngugi’s reference to the great CLR James is one of the common references we, in LALIT, have. And you will see CLR James book, The Black Jacobins, referred to perhaps a dozen times on at our site.)
Here is what Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o writes to the Kenyan Prime Minister:
“Dear William Ruto,
“The images of your recent State visit to the USA were very disturbing to me and to every patriotic Kenyan.
“I saw you seated on a chair, grinning, while Biden stood behind you, his face beaming with satisfaction. Why not? He had just announced that you had signed off our beloved Kenya to make it a non-member ally of NATO.
“In other words, you had agreed to become NATO’s errand boy in America’s struggle with Russia and China for access to resources of the continent.
“Ruto, do you know that NATO, murdered Muammar Gaddafi, so that Libyan oil-fields which Gaddafi had nationalized, would revert to the West? Gaddafi was once the chairman of the African union of which Kenya was a founding member.
“But this other picture was no less disturbing. While you were inside the White House, Haitians were in the streets demonstrating, calling you a slave. Do you know the history of Haiti? Please read The Black Jacobins the book written by a once Jomo Kenyatta Pan-African ally, C L R James.
“Haiti, now a Black people’s State, used to be a slave colony of France. But led by Toussaint Louverture, Haiti, the richest colony of its time, fought French slavery and in 1804 it seized its independence. In the USA slavery was then in full bloom. America did not want its African slaves to emulate Haiti, and it has never forgiven Haiti for that and thus began the story of America’s destabilization of Haiti.
“Ruto do you see the irony of your actions? The USA, was originally a settler colony taking over the land that belonged to Native Americans. In 1776 The White settlers declared their independence from their English King. But the colonized Native Americans remained colonized. Kenya was equally a British settler colony.
“The white settlers wanted to have a similar kind of Independence. But the Mau Mau led by Dedan Kĩmathi stopped them. Years later, Algeria, Rhodesia and South Africa would follow the example of Kenya.
“Thus the country you now lead, was the first to stop the historical trend of white settlers claiming themselves independent as in America, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
“Ruto, you have chosen to betray that history of Pride.
“Ruto, you have chosen to become an agent of the West?
“Ruto, you have chosen to sell your country cheap.
“Why, oh, Why?”
