Last night, I tossed and turned in bed with the indelible images of the USA and Israel starving children to death in Gaza. I could not stop returning to the images of Biden and Netanyahu, in cold blood, slaughtering whole Palestinian families with lethal bombs dropped with criminal intent. And all the while, I am haunted by Genocide Joe and his hit-man Netanyahu literally corralling the people of Gaza, as if they were a herd of animals, into the South of the strip, ready to push them out into the Sinai Desert in Egypt – as was their original joint plan.
This morning, when I got up, the images continued to haunt me. So, I went out in the drizzle and swept up and gathered three big dustbin loads of leaves from the tropical storm Eleanor, trying to rid myself of the living nightmare any sentient human being is going through. It worked for a while, but soon the human cruelty, the depravity of the USA and Israel came back to me. I can’t manage to finish articles on other important, often related, things: the debate at the ICJM that I spoke at on the State killing Kaya and communal exactions by parts of the state against innocent families; the way PM Rishi Sunak telephoned Prime Minister Jugnauth the very day Mauritius took the floor at the ICJ on Palestine; the fine oral submissions prepared by Jagdish Koonjul and barrister Pierre Klein on behalf of Mauritius, taking the lessons of the continued colonization and occupation of Mauritius by the UK-USA, the judgment in the Mauritius case, and applying them to Israel and the USA-UK’s continued colonization and occupation of Palestine. I write half an article, and then get haunted by the genocide happening NOW. The NOW-ness of it overtakes me. And the worst thing is that we all, including me, knew that this would be perpetrated by the USA-Israel, just as it is now being perpetrated. How are these guys going to get out of it afterwards? This, too, haunts me. The possible future of even more impunity.
Since our Genocide Blog began, literally on its second day, you can go check – we have warned that this forced expulsion of Palestinians into the Sinai Desert is the USA-Israeli military and political aim: The aim was, and still is, to kill, maim, lay waste and then kick out the rest. That is the aim. Put bluntly. Biden and Blinken and Netanyahu together planned this. They thought it up. Now they execute it.
The five or six of us who prepare this blog as a team knew it, wrote it down, and we are not the most informed people on this earth. On the contrary, Biden and Sunak treat Mauritians, including Chagossians, as animals or idiots, not informed people. They are the know-alls, the plan-alls, and the perpetrate-alls. And they aim to live with eternal impunity? Look at war criminals Bush and Blair. Are they in jail? No, they are bragging around the place about their roles in history. Journalist Julian Assange, the hero of our age, the man who published the film and the give-away cables of Bush and Blair’s war crimes, is the one in jail. Right now, he is threatened with deportation from a UK prison to an American possible death sentence. This is despite an overwhelming vote on Valentine’s Day in the Australian parliament to get him freed and back to Australia where he belongs. He lives this hell, while the USA-Israeli genocide gobbles up lives.
Anyway, we have again and again warned what the war aim of Biden and Netanyahu is: To kill, maim, raze all culture and cultivation to the ground, flatten Gaza, and then kick as many people as possible out of the place.
Now, this is clear to everyone.
Now, the IMF even comes and prepares – bare-faced – funding for Egypt to be able to take the refugees in. In its press briefing yesterday, the IMF said: “With respect to the question on the potential impact pressures from refugees from Gaza, what we do see in Egypt is that there is a need to have a very comprehensive support package for Egypt. And we're working very closely with both the Egyptian authorities and their partners to ensure that Egypt does not have any residual financing needs and also to ensure that the program is able to, you know, [sic] ensure macroeconomic and financial stability in Egypt.” So Egypt “and their partners” presumably the USA and Israel will be bailed out when the moment of expulsion comes? If we, the people of the world cannot stop the expulsion, bring criminal proceedings against Netanyahu and Biden, and care for the Palestinian victims of this genocidal mania.
The cruelty of the USA + Israel’s intentional starvation of Palestinian families, carpet bombing of whole neighbourhoods, and hounding Palestinians out of their country, is truly unbearable. Worse still. It is a repeat of the holocaust of 1948, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced to abandon their homes in Palestine. The IIsraeli Security Cabinet member and Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter threatened this, a second Nakba or holocaust, in public in November. “We are now rolling out the Gaza Nakba,” he bragged. These images of USA + Israel impunity make the otherwise cogently argued and powerful oral submissions of 50 countries and three regional groups of countries at the ICJ hearings on Israel’s illegal colonization and occupation seem dream-like, happening in a parallel world.
Blinken and Biden’s faces, like the fictional Dorian Gray remain handsome and gay as seen on TV, while their portraits, hidden in cupboards, decay, turning into the monsters they have become. We must expose them. While, Netanyahu, looking in real life positively demoniac, keeps up the campaign of starvation, killing, maiming, destroying, and hounding out, in part so as to hang on to power personally so as, in turn, to avoid prison for corruption. In truth, Netanyahu is the devil’s tail that now wags the genocidal dog, Biden.
Even the language we use is not strong enough for what we are witnessing. Watching a genocide is simply unbearable. So, please everyone. Stand up. Speak out. Get your organization to take a stand. Send your position to the Prime Minister. And women, come to the march on Friday 1, at midday. It begins and ends, one hour later, at the Company Gardens.
