CALL to Prime Minister Hon. P. Jugnauth as Leader of the House
Today, 29 November, which is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People and this year today also being the 6th day of a temporary “pause” in the Israeli State’s genocidal bombing of Gaza,
we in LALIT who are also part of the broad common front called Solidarite Morisyin ar Lepep Palestinn call on you as Leader of the House to introduce an urgent resolution before the National Assembly so as to attempt to get a unanimous call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the lifting of the military siege, and the suspension of diplomatic ties with Israel until the end of its military occupation of Palestine and total de-colonization. Such a stand will give the State of Mauritius status as a country prepared to stand firm on the principles of international law.
It needs to be born in mind that, in the past, the Mauritian State has, on two previous occasions, reacted sharply against the State of Israel’s aggression against the Palestinian people: in 1976 Mauritius broke off all ties, and only re-established them in 1993 following the Oslo Agreement, and then again suspended all ties over previous Gaza bombings in 2009.
What the Israeli State is perpetrating right now is far, far more serious. It is a genocide in Gaza and a continued colonization of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Just as Mauritius relies on the diplomatic support of other countries that stand on principle in relation to the international law of decolonization, so we should support the Palestinian people who have suffered an even worse injustice than the people of Mauritius, in particular the Chagossians.
Attached is a list of the countries that have already broken or suspended ties with the State of Israel.
Yours sincerely,
Alain Ah Vee
