Dear Minister Obeegadoo,
We write to you on two points regarding housing policy:
1. The replacement of asbestos housing
You requested a dossier on the asbestos housing situation from us in December last year which we promptly sent you on the 9th of December, 2019. On MBC news on the 4th of March this year, you announced that you were working so that no-one in the country has to live in asbestos housing. MBC announced that a number of asbestos houses in Dubreuil were being removed and replaced with safe housing.
We note that the 2020 budget has made provision for removal of asbestos housing, but not for the replacement of toxic houses that the State sold to inhabitants. We remind you that throughout the confinement period, when the government's modord was “Res Lakaz”, inhabitants have had to take refuge in asbestos houses.
It is urgent that the replacement of asbestos houses begin as soon as possible.
Could you clarify what your Ministry's plan is concerning the replacement of asbestos houses?
