Lalit, Never Again Olive Resistance and CTSP held a symbolic action this morning, Monday 8th June outside the construction site for the new US embassy in Moka to raise awareness about the ongoing situation in our region.
This action was, in part, In response to the 29 May Cabinet decision to sign a treaty linking the Mauritian Police force and the US military. This must not go ahead. It will risk setting a precedent towards the US military having control on a number of fronts, including surveillance, security and data. This, in turn, is a threat to sovereignty,
In addition the ongoing situation in Diego Garcia makes the timing of our action perfect. Yesterday, according to The Telegraph, President Donald Trump is considering "buying the Chagos Islands" so as to secure the military base on Diego Garcia". This is outrageous.
The continued aggression of the United States of America, alongside its allies Israel and the EU, jeopardises peace in the region and in the world. The aggression against Iran makes fuel prices rocket, and is causing a cost of living crisis in Mauritius affecting all hard working families.
We the people call on the Mauritian government to take immediate action to safeguard our sovereignty and security by cutting ties with the American colonial imperialist plans.
Our future depends on this. Peace depends on this.
We also call on the Mauritian government to take immediate action to sign up to the ICJ court against Israel for its genocide against the Palestinian population.
We call on our Government to launch an international movement for all States to put an embargo on the sale of arms to Israel, as the ICJ provisional measures has already decided. And to call on all States to force Israel to put an immediate end to the brutal siege and occupation of Palestine and to allow the uninhibited flow of all goods and services.
